Your post was perfect. How can it be better?
You’ve created it. You’ve proofread it. You’ve checked the image three times.
It looks great.
You hit Publish.
And then…nothing.
So, what went wrong?
Maybe nothing.
Your post can be perfectly written, beautifully designed and completely aligned with your brand – but still fail to connect with the people you actually want to reach.
The missing piece. Your Audience.
It’s easy to get caught up in creating good content. But good content isn’t necessarily relevant content.
Before creating your next post, ask yourself:
Who am I talking to?
What do they care about?
What do I want them to do next?
These questions became particularly important when developing digital content for the Association of Culturally Appropriate Services (AfCAS), a Perth not-for-profit organisation supporting culturally and linguistically diverse older people.
AfCAS has an important message. But communicating that message effectively requires more than simply putting information online.
For example, an emotional social media post might make someone stop scrolling and think. A blog can provide more information. A website can give people somewhere to explore the organisation further.
Same organisation. Different audiences. Different content. Different purpose.
And that’s where digital marketing becomes more than just posting.
Don’t just publish. Learn.
One of the biggest advantages of digital marketing is that we can see what happens next.
Who clicked?
What did they engage with?
Did they visit the website?
Did they take the action wanted?
Analytics can turn these behaviours into insights, helping marketers understand what resonates with their audience and what could be improved.
Because the goal isn’t to create one “perfect” post.
It’s to create, measure, learn and improve.
So, before you hit publish on your next piece of content, take a moment to look at it from your audience’s perspective.
Would you stop scrolling?
Would you care?
And most importantly…
What happens next?
Because sometimes making a great post better isn’t about changing the post at all.
It’s about understanding the person on the other side of the screen.
