The Association for Culturally Appropriate Services (AfCAS) works to improve access to culturally appropriate services for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
AfCAS raises awareness, connects diverse communities with service providers and helps care recipients access appropriate support.
How AfCAS Can Make a Difference
🎓Training: AfCAS provides culturally appropriate care training for family carers, care workers, supervisors, managers and boards, covering areas including home care, residential care, dementia and palliative care.
🤝 Mentoring: Through Train-the-Trainer programs, AfCAS helps care leaders develop the knowledge needed to better support people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
🔎 Cultural Audits & Charters: AfCAS helps organisations identify strengths and gaps and develop practical improvements to better recognise multicultural needs.
🌏 Community Engagement & Advisory Services: AfCAS connects service providers with CALD communities and provides advice to communities, universities and service providers.
Helping Older People Stay Connected
AfCAS also delivers the Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme in Western Australia, focusing on eligible older people from CALD backgrounds. The program provides friendship and companionship to help reduce social isolation.
