More Than a Degree: What Captures ECU’s Vibrant Student Heart

In digital marketing, engagement does not come from polished campaigns alone. It comes from real people sharing real experiences. Audiences today value authenticity, emotion and connection, which is why user-generated content, or UGC, has become one of the most effective tools for building trust. As a student at Edith Cowan University (ECU), I experience the impact of UGC through everyday moments on campus.
Learning Through Experience
Studying digital marketing at ECU goes beyond textbooks and theory. One experience that stood out was a content creation workshop held at the new City Campus. Rather than only discussing strategy and engagement metrics, we explored how meaningful content is created and applied those principles immediately by filming on site.
These learning moments often generate authentic content organically. Studying with city views from the library, collaborating with classmates over coffee, or working creatively in real environments all reflect what student life at ECU genuinely looks like.
Why UGC Matters for the ECU Brand
From a marketing perspective, UGC builds credibility. Prospective students are more likely to trust content created by current students than traditional advertising. Student-produced photos, videos and blogs showcase not only educational opportunities, but also lifestyle, community and balance.
Simple moments, such as group study sessions, time spent at ECU Village or enjoying Perth’s outdoor lifestyle, communicate emotion and relatability. Emotion drives engagement, and UGC captures this naturally without feeling forced or scripted.
More Than Promotion
UGC does more than promote ECU. It allows students to actively participate in shaping the university’s brand story. Students are not just audiences or consumers, but contributors to a shared narrative grounded in real experiences.
