The Spiers Centre Is Stopping Homelessness - It Starts With Hello

Every night in Perth, more than 9,700 people experience homelessness. For many, it doesn’t look like sleeping on the street. It can be the young person couch-surfing from one place to another, the single parent living in a car, or the family staying in temporary accommodation after losing their rental. Behind every number is a real story of struggle, and the truth is, homelessness can touch anyone.

But for those suffering, The Spiers Centre believes that great change can starts small. A conversation. A kind word. A simple hello. That single moment of connection can reduce stigma, open the door to support, and remind someone that they are not alone.

Our Mission

That’s what It Starts With Hello is all about. A shift in culture, where early intervention and compassion are woven into the everyday fabric of Perth. A culture where people feel safe to talk about financial stress before it becomes overwhelming, and where communities are equipped to notice when someone might be struggling.

A difference no matter how small

“The Spiers Centre helped me when I thought all hope was lost. Without them I wouldn't be where I am today"

See how you can help make a change. A neighbour noticing the signs of stress. A colleague checking in after a difficult week. The Spiers Centre believes even a conversation can challenges the myths about homelessness, and shape our culture for the better.

Change doesn’t always arrive with a headline or a policy. Sometimes, it arrives with a greeting, a moment of listening, or the quiet confidence to offer support. And in that way, Perth can grow into a place where no one feels invisible.

Because, in the end, it really does start with hello.
