Dear Facebook, By The Time You Read This...

Dear Facebook,
We’ve been together for a long time. You saw me through my uni days, awkward selfies, and those late-night status updates that probably should’ve stayed in drafts. But lately things just aren’t the same. I’ve been meaning to tell you this for a while, so here it is: I think it’s time we broke up.
You’ve Become Too Public
Back in the day, posting felt simple. Now, with work colleagues, family, and random acquaintances all in the mix, I can’t share without overthinking it. I want intimacy, not an audience.
Your Algorithm Doesn’t See Me Anymore
I used to feel heard. Now, my posts barely reach anyone unless I pay to boost them. You’ve become more about ads and less about genuine connection, and honestly, it hurts.
I found someone more private.
We don’t talk anymore—we whisper in group chats. WhatsApp, Messenger, even Discord… they give me what I need: small, private spaces where conversations feel real.
Others Get Me better.
Instagram keeps things light and visual. TikTok is a fun, creative, and vibrant platform alive with trends. LinkedIn helps me grow professionally and connect with my peers here in Perth. They’re not perfect, but they feel more relevant to who I am now.
We Can Still Be Friends
Don’t get me wrong, you’re still excellent for some things. Your groups are buzzing with life, whether it’s Perth-run clubs, student networks, or community swaps. But are our days of sharing every minor update over? They’re over.
Where I’ll Be Hanging Out Instead
Instagram Stories for quick updates.
TikTok is for creativity and culture.
LinkedIn is for my career and connections.
WhatsApp groups for authentic chats
So, it’s not me, Facebook. It really is you. Thanks for the memories, but I’m moving on.
Sincerely,
Your once-loyal poster
