That is the ultimate description of hidden homelessness—where even households that are employed can be without a roof to sleep under.

For over 45 years, The Spiers Centre has intervened to assist Perth individuals suffering from poverty, domestic violence, and social isolation. From its early beginnings as an informal women's support network, it has evolved into a recovery-oriented, trauma-sensitive community services hub.

Just last June, the Centre was compelled to reject 383 emergency relief appeals—an unfortunate indication of the growing need for assistance.

This initiative has three clear objectives: to improve understanding of hidden homelessness; to encourage individuals to seek help early; and to reduce stigma associated with financial distress and residential instability.

Its CEO detailed the case of a mid-30s mother of two teenage girls living out of her car. Each evening, she roams to find a safe place to park her vehicle. That is hidden homelessness—hidden, silenced, and deeply destabilizing.
