I Found ECU's Best-Kept Secret: This Lakeside Pizza Joint Has Been Winning Hearts for 20 Years

Let me tell you about the coolest spot on campus that you might be missing. Tucked away in Building 9, right by the lake at ECU Joondalup, there's this amazing little place called Slice of Italy that's been quietly serving up some of the best pizza and coffee around for two whole decades.
How Have I Never Been Here Before?
That was literally my first thought when I stumbled across this place this semester. I'd been at ECU for a year now and somehow never noticed this family-run gem with its perfect lake views and incredibly chill vibe.
What makes this place so special isn't just the location (though sitting by the lake with a coffee between classes is pretty much perfect). It's the fact that once people find this place, they keep coming back. I've watched seniors who clearly have been regulars for years, and professors who greet the staff like old friends.
Not Just Another Pizza Place
Their Margherita pizza alone is worth writing home about – simple but somehow perfect. And if you're feeling adventurous, try the Capricciosa. But their coffee game is equally strong. On mornings when I need something stronger than my willpower to get through a 9 AM lecture, their espresso has literally saved my academic career.
Plus, being connected with Birra Bar means you can transition seamlessly from afternoon studying into evening unwinding without changing locations.
The Lakeside Study Spot You've Been Dreaming Of
We all know those main campus study areas where you can barely hear yourself think. This place is the exact opposite – just enough background buzz, comfy seating, great coffee, and those calming lake views right outside.
I've written more assignments here in the past semester than I care to admit. Something about the atmosphere just helps my brain work better (or maybe it's just the constant supply of caffeine and carbs).
Become Part of the Regulars Club
What I love most about Slice of Italy is how the staff starts to recognize you after just a couple of visits. By my third time there, they remembered my usual order. In a campus of thousands of students, finding a place where you're not just another face in the crowd feels pretty special.
I heard recently that they're now open to catering for campus events too – same great food for your meetings or student gatherings.
So if you're looking for me this semester, try Slice of Italy first. I'll be the one with the cappuccino and a half-eaten pizza, staring at the lake while pretending to study.
