Make a Difference: Volunteer at an AfCAS Workshop

🌻Would you like to support age-care residents while learning about culturally appropriate care? AfCAS invites students, community members and people interested in aged care to help with our upcoming workshop for residents living in aged-care facilities.

Why is AfCAS organising this workshop?

The workshop aims to create a welcoming space where residents can connect, share experiences and participate in meaningful activities. Recognising each person’s language, culture and interests helps make participation more inclusive.

Volunteers can contribute by welcoming participants, preparing materials and supporting activities under the guidance of workshop organisers.

What can volunteers learn?

Volunteering offers opportunities to practise communication, teamwork and active listening. Spending time with residents can also help your understanding of cultural diversity and the importance of respecting individual preferences.

👩‍🎓For students and people exploring the aged-care industry, participating can provide insight into community engagement and person-centred support. Community members can share their skills while building connections across generations.

How can residents and providers benefit?

📤Shared activities can encourage conversation, enjoyment and a sense of belonging. Giving residents choices about how they participate respects their independence and creates opportunities to share their knowledge and creativity.

For aged-care providers, volunteer involvement can support staff-led activities and strengthen community relationships. Volunteers contribute additional companionship while following staff guidance and residents’ preferences.
