From Hello to Hope : Rebuilding life at Spiers Centre.

People experiencing homelessness.

Hello, it might be a simple word, but at Spiers Centre, hello means a significant and meaningful change in somebody’s life.

According to our statistical data, Spiers centre experienced a rise of people seeking for help of 21% in June as compared to May.  Behind each statistic lies a family facing genuine difficulties in terms of unemployment issues, experiencing homelessness, and unforeseen events.

The 21 % is not just numbers; they are people who genuinely need help and support. We believe there is more than 21 % as due to the possibility of not considering themselves as a deserving case or a reluctancy to say hello.

At Spiers Centres, we are a shoulder to lean on:

A hello from someone is more than only providing food assistance; it’s about listening to them and hearing the level of pain they are enduring. We are here to help and provide support that can relieve them, such as emergency vouchers from Coles or Woolworths, clothes, and financial counselling that will help people to have a better tomorrow.

Our presence is to be a safe and inclusive place for people to rely on, and which enables growth among everyone in need.

Each hello we hear has a story that seeks help, a real case situation that we call Catherine, who was a victim of domestic violence and escaped from it. She is a single mother of 3 children, who was renting a place for five years but had to leave the place as the landlord was in the process of selling the property. She was struggling financially and could not afford to rent another place. She was pregnant, experienced homelessness, and had to move to her grandparents’ garage, where she was living in a tent due to a lack of space. She lived in a tent for 15 months with a baby.

She thought she is not a deserving case and that others are in need more than her until she finally reached out. Spiers centre provided her with emergency relief and tax assistance.

Her Hello to us have been a life changing experience for her, where her future is brighter as she seeks to have a career as an education assistant.

Just like catherine there are many other waiting hellos that need us.

☎️ Starts with HELLO to rebuild lives: where a step towards us means lending a helpful hand to you.

Alone, we cannot meet the growing needs; we need your support to help us make a meaningful impact for our community. Your supports matters to us more than ever and imaging the number of silent cases of catherine not reported. Together, we believe we can make a brighter tomorrow for everyone in crisis.

Be part of a brighter future. If you or someone needs support, say hello here.
