From Coffee to Coursework: My Day as an Online ECU Student

“A day in the life of an ECU student”

As an Online ECU student, each day is a little different, but I ensure I meet my learning goals through discipline, flexibility and focusing on personal development. Considering I study outside of Perth, my university experience is informed by being independent and forming my own routine. I tend to get up early in the morning. I prefer a moment of silence, usually with a cup of coffee, as I go through my day calendar. Since my classes are usually online, I tend to be in control of my time scheduling. By being disciplined, I always ensure I properly manage time despite being as an Online ECU student.

I usually start by listening to

orded or sometimes I attend online live sessions, which is determined by the schedule. This is usually among the busy times of my day as an online ECU student. During online live sessions or recorded lectures, I take notes and reflect what is being taught. I usually have the freedom to rewatch the lectures later to ensure I understand. I have a break in the middle of the day and relax. Being in a position to control of my learning environment is one of the greatest benefits of being an online ECU student. Be it going out to have a breath of fresh air, meeting friends online, or even just spending some time to unwind, making me remain productive. I also take some time to look at group chats and discussion boards, which are fundamental in keeping in touch with classmates.

I usually change my attention to coursework and assignments in the afternoon. This involves working on group projects, research and writing. Online learning as an online ECU student, I have learned to be proactive especially in managing deadlines. I ensure I clearly communicate and remain focused on my learning goals. Although this has been challenging, it has also enabled me to develop great time management skills and self-discipline skills.

In the evening, I usually focus on revisions as well as planning for following day’s lectures. I go over what I have learnt throughout the day, organise my notes and make a to-do list of the next day. This keeps me in check and avoid stress particularly during a hectic week. I also view more reading materials or read more information to learn more about a certain topic to deepen my understanding.

Generally, studying as an online ECU student, is interesting as it provides rewarding and unique learning experiences. It is not merely about studying but learning to manage time, remain motivated as well as control the learning environment. Although it is strenuous and requires discipline, being an online ECU student gives you the flexibility to study in a manner that suits your life.
