🌸 It Starts With Hello 🌸
At The Spiers Centre, we believe that many of life’s most meaningful outcomes start with something simple: a hello. A hello can be the first step toward connection, support, and possibility. For over 40 years, The Spiers Centre has been empowering communities across Perth through a unique organisational model designed to build well-being, capability, and resilience.

Four Decades of Community Empowerment
Since our beginning, we have worked alongside women, families, and individuals facing complex social and economic challenges. Our highly skilled and compassionate staff bring both expertise and empathy to every situation, providing support in times of:
Crisis and financial hardship
Family and domestic violence
Mental health struggles
Housing insecurity and homelessness
Our focus is not just on short-term relief but on long-term impact. Through tailored programs, services, and partnerships, we help people regain stability, build resilience, and create pathways to brighter futures.
Raising Our Profile to Reach More People
Despite more than four decades of service, The Spiers Centre remains less known than it should be within the community. That’s why, in collaboration with the Digital Marketing Crew, we are working to raise our profile so that more families know we are here and ready to help when life feels overwhelming.
Anti-Poverty Week: Shining a Light on Hidden Struggles
This year’s Anti-Poverty Week (12–18 October) is a powerful reminder of why our work matters. Poverty is no longer always visible. Increasingly, we see people who are employed but still unable to make ends meet. Families living in cars despite having jobs, or low-income earners priced out of housing by Perth’s difficult rental market, are becoming a common story.
For women aged 30 to 40, the backbone of many families, these pressures can be especially heavy. Balancing employment, childcare, and household costs while dealing with rising rents and everyday expenses can feel impossible.
The Power of Early Intervention
At The Spiers Centre, we stress the importance of early intervention. Seeking support at the first signs of financial difficulty can prevent challenges from spiraling into crises. Yet, stigma too often keeps people silent. Many feel shame about asking for help, believing they should cope alone.
We want to change that narrative. Reaching out for support is not a weakness—it is an act of strength. Saying hello to The Spiers Centre can be the first step toward new opportunities, financial stability, and personal resilience.
Together, We Can Break the Cycle
This Anti-Poverty Week, we invite you to stand with us. Together, we can raise awareness about the hidden face of poverty in Perth, mobilize funding and resources to ensure vital support services remain accessible, and challenge stigma by fostering a culture of kindness and acceptance.
At The Spiers Centre, we know that it starts with hello. From that small beginning, we can help build stronger, kinder, and more resilient communities together.
