Beyond the Cheque: Why Supporting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Seniors is a Strategic CSR Opportunity

The Hidden Challenge Facing CALD Seniors

Language is more than just communication for most (CALD) seniors. It is a sense of belonging, carries memories and their identity.

Once they have a cognitive decline, some multilingual or bilingual seniors revert to their first language, and it becomes a challenge to their carers who are unable to communicate with them. Expressing their needs, maintaining meaningful relationships and communication generally becomes difficult and results in cultural isolation and reduced social connections.

Why This Matters to WA Businesses

For the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) managers and business executives, supporting CALD seniors through AfCAS presents an opportunity to create a meaningful impact in the community and achieve the company’s internal Environmental, Social and Governance goals.

Rather than looking at CSR as a one-off donation, businesses can participate in CSR opportunities that address real community needs by partnering with AfCAS who are aiming to provide care to isolated CALD seniors.
