A Day in the Life of an International Student at ECU’s City Campus

ECU City Campus
Thinking about studying digital marketing abroad and wondering what your future at ECU could look like?

Dear future marketing students,

As a postgraduate marketing student at ECU, you won’t just gain a high-quality education but also work on real-world projects and build strong industry connections for your future. Especially now, with the brand-new City Campus opening in the heart of Perth in Semester 1 of 2026, student life is more connected, creative, and experience-driven than ever before.

So, what can you expect from a typical day?

I start my day by leaving my student accommodation in Mount Lawley. Like many international students, I benefit from Perth’s relatively low living costs compared to other major Australian cities. Then I hop on a bus using my Transperth student card and arrive within a few minutes directly at ECU City Campus in Perth CBD. The commute couldn't be easier: it's simple, affordable and stress-free.

As I enter the campus, I pass the large immersive screen in the entrance area. This space doesn’t just showcase digital visuals, it often features content created by students themselves. From a marketing perspective, it’s a perfect example of user-generated content in action, where students actively contribute to the university’s brand story.

Immersive Screen in North Building

My mornings are usually spent in modern, tech-equipped learning spaces where academics bring real industry insights into each lecture, which makes learning feel practical and relevant. After class, I often head to one of my favourite spots on campus: the library. With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Perth skyline, it’s an inspiring place to study, even if it can be a little distracting sometimes.

Lunch at the Sky Terrace

Lunch is often spent at the Sky Terrace, where I catch up with friends between classes and enjoy some sun and fresh air before heading back to study. There are also plenty of cafes in the building for a quick coffee break, because let's be honest, a good coffee is essential during busy days.

My afternoons are usually dedicated to group work, which ECU encourages by providing bookable meeting rooms and flexible study spaces. Working with students from over 100 countries makes group discussions especially enriching and gives me the opportunity to experience what it’s like to work in international marketing environments. If I ever need help, I can visit the Student Hub or speak with librarians who provide support with assignments and referencing, which is really helpful when adjusting to a new academic system as an international student.

Beyond the Classroom

But studying at ECU isn’t just about academics. One of the biggest advantages of the City Campus is its location. After a productive day, I can easily walk over to Northbridge, an area that is known for having a lively nightlife, diverse food scene and cultural atmosphere to meet friends for dinner.
